- Where did you grow up?
I grew up in 3 places across the world – Bangalore (India), Vevey (Switzerland) and Westlake (Ohio). My father had a consulting job and therefore moved around a lot based on where his projects were.
- What high school did you go to?
I went to Delhi Public School Bangalore East. I was the first batch of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. This worked out well for my friends and me as we had the same teachers through these 4 grades as well as much more lenient grading (to improve the school’s average performance).
- What was your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?
I was on the high school cricket team. The passion for the sport continued into UT, where I became the President and Captain of the University team.
- Why did you come to UT?
To be honest, it was the cheapest school I got into for CS. In retrospect, I think I may have fared better in smaller school’s. However, I have learnt a lot outside and inside the classroom at UT.
- Why are you majoring in CS?
It was the only subject I was naturally good at during high school. I did not have (and still do not!) much of an idea about what I wanted to do in life. With that being said, I believe it was the right decision.
- Why are you in this class?
I wish to learn and improve in C++. I have not coded in C++ since high school.
- What are your expectations of this class?
I believe it will be demanding, however, having taken Professor Downing’s SWE class – I know it will be thoroughly engaging, challenging and I will *learn* a lot during this semester.
- How much C/C++/Java programming do you already know?
I know Java, however have forgotten most of it. I use python predominantly.
- How did you like the first couple of lectures?
Pretty standard introductory lectures – similar to the start of the SWE lectures.
- How did you feel about the cold calling?
I am a proponent of it. Professor Downing never makes us feel bad about not knowing the answer.
- What made you happy this week?
I met my girlfriend after a rough couple months.
- What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
Plan, plan, plan. Set up your calendar with exam dates and homework dates and figure out what your schedule and workload will be this semester. I find myself falling behind very quickly without the right planning.
